Family Fun Day a Rousing Success!
November 8, 2011

On Sunday, November 6, many of our standout Eleanor Women and their children joined us at our Eleanor Family Fun Day at 10pin Bowling Lounge on State Street in downtown Chicago.
This special afternoon celebration of our women, compliments of our 2011 event donors, allowed us to give these hardworking women a much needed afternoon off, and to thank many of them personally for participating in our Faces of Eleanor portrait series.
Thank you to 10pin for sharing their Cosmopolitan Lounge and bowling lanes. Fun was had by all, with astonishing bowling exploits alongside some seriously great food—and great fun!
It was a wonderful opportunity for these women to relax with their children and enjoy some well-earned time off, compliments of our donors and event sponsors!

October 26: Research Briefing—Turning Point for a Modern Majority
The Eleanor Foundation released its newest research report, Changing Conditions in a Changing World—The Situation of Female Heads-of-Households in the Chicago Region, conducted by Dr. Malcolm Bush from the University of Chicago's Chapin Hall and based on U.S. Census data. The briefing drew policymakers, foundation executives, advocates and service providers all concerned with the region's capacity to serve single working women.
Among the report's key findings: women-led households drove Chicago regional household expansion since 2000—more than doubling the rate of growth overall and occurring almost entirely in the suburbs. This growth, particularly explosive among Latina-led households, did not bring them greater prosperity. In fact, many are worse off economically, despite working harder and being better educated. Single working mothers who earn between $10,000 and $50,000 grew more than 18% between 2000 and 2008. They now comprise a third of a million, or 332,628, households in the Chicago region.
The Eleanor Foundation shared an action agenda to broaden efforts that create conditions under which women-led households can advance economically. The report is made possible in part by a grant from The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation.

May 19: Wine and Zen in 2010!
A record number of guests joined us for an inspiring evening of appetizing adventures
at Primitive's stunning gallery of art and artifacts from around the world. There,
guests enjoyed global street food and California wine pairings created by WAVE
Executive Chef Kristine Subido and her team. All net proceeds will directly support
the Eleanor Network—a citywide system of services we are building to advance
working women's economic success.
Thanks to all who helped make the benefit a huge success! See the photos.
October 15: My Walk Around the Sun
A wonderful group of friends and colleagues joined us for a release party celebrating
a special issue of the award-winning Journal of Ordinary Thought commissioned by
the Eleanor Foundation. Guests listened to inspiring stories by working women
whose writings gave voice to their journeys and inspirations. Thanks to our
