IDEA Initiative Makes a Difference

A network of resources to support economic self-sufficiencyThe Eleanor Foundation's partnership with Heartland Human Care Service's IDEA initiative made a significant difference for Sharee Warren, a teaching assistant who has worked with the Child Development Center since 2004. Sharee is a single mother of four. She's working her way up with help from the Eleanor Network and the partnership with her employer.

A 31-year-old single mother of four, Sharee is applying for rental assistance through the Chicago Low-Income Housing Trust Fund, an Eleanor Foundation partner. She's also pursuing her associate degree in child development at Malcolm X College.

Sharee recently completed the IDEA Initiative's financial management course. I want to show my kids that just because you're a single mom doesn't mean you can't come up from the bottom," says Sharee. "My goal is to move up to the middle. Working for Stacy is a blessing. And it's such a good idea for Carmen to be working with us, too."
