Irisbel Ramirez, a Mujer Avanzando program participant, is already speaking out. A single working mother, Ramirez shared her story at a public hearing on the value of education—having recently completed Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) classes and started work as a phlebotomist at Loyola Hospital. Through Mujer Avanzando, she started a savings account, opened an IRA, and charted an extended career path. Within two years, she plans to become a registered nurse specializing in forensics.
"I love this program. We're like family. We share our problems and help each other out. It changed the way I think," shared Ramirez. "I have become stronger as a woman. I believe everything is possible. I want to move up, earn more and encourage other women to be strong."
